The MRI scanner consists of a long tube, into which the volunteer will
slide in while lying on a bed. While in the MRI scanner, his/her cooperation in staying still
during the experiments will be needed. In most of the studies, the
volunteer will simply need to lie still and relax. However, for some of the studies the volunteer might
be required to perform a simple task within the
scanner, so as to measure which part of his/her brain is active. The total MRI scan will last 45-60 min.
Possible Risks and Side Effects
There are very few risks and contra-indications for MRI, and the
volunteer will be screened for any of those risks before going in the
MRI machine. These risks are: severe claustrophobia, pregnancy,
cardiac pacemaker, orthodontics (braces) or other non MR-compatible
ferromagnetic implants. MRI does not involve x-rays and no
contrast agents will be used in the study. Ear protection will be
given to protect against
scanner noise.
